I have a problem with Charles Mwewa on these points: he thinks the constitution is not a priority because there is no constitution crisis in the country. 1. Agreed there is no crisis, but the provisions in the constitution puts limitations to the realisation of one's full potential on the basis of the social, economic and cultural rights being absent; 2. there are provisions that stifle the operations of the fourth estate of democracy --the media-- which becomes an important tool to provide checks and balances (holding the governors and the governed accountable) and inform the citizenry towards building responsible citizenship and national unity; 3. the election system still remains something that needs review looking at the political landscape in the country and voting patterns; 50 plus one is needed than the FPTP system and proportional representation becomes cardinal and increase the number of constituencies as representation of constituents using the current numbers of MPs does not suffice for effectiveness; and the issue of the running mate in the name of vice president cannot be left for another eternity; just as there is need to reduce too much power that rests in the hands of the president.

Another points I differ with Charles Mwewa is what he says: reducing poverty as being a priority, that the committee of experts is well represented and that it will be less expensive venture.

There is no government in it tenure of office even in the name of wamuyayaya (forever) will find all the moneys required to find a panacea to the social economic problems. They will never be able to provide all the roads, all the hospitals, all the schools and all the jobs required. A constitution is the best depository where people are afforded chance to realise their rights and fully support the legitimacy of a government and limit the excesses of its leaders. From the last MMD administration we have learned that greater lapses exist that allow government leaders to get away with mismanagement of their power. There is no allergy, though we are made to believe there is, in the present regime against the excesses we have seen since the turn of our multipartyism on August 30, 1991. Apparently this date happens to be my birthday somewhere in the early 70s. I passionately stand to defend constitutional democracy on this basis. And there is no democracy that is going to be cheap. The reason that Zambians have a discretion to accept the second best in the form of the constitution that is there does not mean we cannot reach for the better without wasting time.

I have a problem with putting a full team of Catholic Bishops and a failed priest who still embraces Catholic doctrines on the constitution as being balanced. What do we need the three bishops for. Even if they will not sit themselves, what we drawing is not a Catechist Recital, but a country's constitution. Look at the first statement of the President: that he is going to run this country on 10 commandments and Catholic Principles. The Evangelical churches were left out. Suzzane Matale is not a good proxy and she was hand picked. Levy was fair as he asked groups to choose their own representatives. Remember representation is never implied in a democracy. People, as in groups, must be given chance to participate in the process. Already this is no democracy. Parliament was supposed to approve these names. For now and as it stands, it is Michael Sata's expert committee and not Zambians.

Then the cost of the expert committee working on the constitution is hidden. The argument that it is cheaper is misplaced without a premises of inference which would have been an allocation in the budget. Seriously Mr Mwewa you need to check the position of your write up here.

its good that you have spoken for dr. mumba bcoz it disturbed some of us to hear that he has stolen and will be arrested when he come to zambia. we wait and see what this gvt will come up with against mumba. if they think they are campaigning, then they do not deserve more than 1 term in office.

Let me begin by congratulating you for the job well done on the style of the extent and context of your writing. Having lived outside Zambia for Years and getting exposed to the style of reporting where the news is objective to governance and politicians, I find the type of leadership caliber in our leaders very disturbing. We need to create a platform where providing checks and balances for the government in power should be healthy for the political playing field other than intimidating anyone who stands to be a threat to our style of leadership and that is how I see Sata becoming and it looks like no one can provide us with that objective role of alliance for what’s going on in Zambia. The wind of change is always necessitated by revolution from an angle that distinguishes itself from the norm and that’s what people like Nevers Mumba bring to the platform.
There is going to be times just like in the past when politicians will try by all means to frustrate Nevers and his style of leadership and if there is no one to provide those checks and balances, because it is very healthy for the development of a country and it helps to keep us in check.
Having read the story where the president is issuing unwarranted and unconfirmed statements causes a huge unethical leadership qualities and is a clear indication of the ills we are yet to see in the present government and that’s why we need men and women who will stand without fear or favor and go into the ill realms of secrecy to expose the truth about governance. The mistakes and shortfalls we have started seeing in the present government can only be checked by someone from outside of that inner circle and point out those mistakes.
Political campaigns are different from reality and it is very easy to say will perform outside of realism and when given the reality of platform, performance is deterred by Conceptualism of the fact that it takes a different position to comprehend what we promise. In as far as we appreciate the new concepts being brought in the political arena by the PF government, we need to enhance the livelihood of our people for a better tomorrow and know that what we do today will come to haunt us tomorrow and that is something that the government of the day need to be made aware of by the media and the people.
Thanks for your style and professionalism insight please keep up the good work and we stand by you.

Buzaianu Threatens Legal Action - Swiss-based businessman and Nicolae Buzaianu has threatened a 100 million Dollars legal action against the Zambian government. Dr Buzaianu, who is former Zambian Deputy permanent delegate to UNESCO, says his action relates to the alleged gold scam, in which he has also been implicated.
The economics of production, the cost of production and other intricacies that go with the upping of the price of bread and other foods will not be addressed by government coercion. HEMCS is right to ask for discussion among stakeholders over the wheat economics.
